If you have ever wondered what is the intent or why wakeboarders use wakeboard towers then please read this article. In wakeboarding, the main thing most persons want to do is catch a great deal of air. Not only is it fun, but once you learn how to get a lot of air amongst you and the wakeboard there are innumerable dissimilar tricks that may be performed. Wakeboard towers may mainly heighten both the height, and time on a wakeboard one spends in the air, or increase ‘hangtime’.
The reason is this – a wakeboard rope is ordinarily attached to the lower percentage of the boat, whether it be a ski pole or a tow hook on the back of the boat. By attaching the rope to a wakeboard tower, which is many times 8 feet high or so, the person on the wakeboard is now being pulled from a higher tow point. This is necessary because it changes the angle by which a rider is towed.
When performing a jump without a wakeboard tower, once airborne, a rider is without delay being pulled back down toward the water’s surface because of the low tow point. But by having the rope attached to an 8 ft. high wakeboard tower, the rider will be capable to achieve much more air before the tow point begins pulling the rider down. This likewise allows a rider to achieve more ‘loft’ in their jumps where they spend more time in the air. In wakeboarding more time in the air means more time to carry out more difficult wakeboard tricks.
Wakeboard towers are also utile because boards, while not in use, may be affixed to the tower in wakeboard racks. This helps keep clutter to a minimum from taking up space in the boat. Wakeboard towers come in a heap of shapes and designs, oftentimes steel or black, with numerous being more robust and others going for a more sleek look. Most all wakeboarding boats now come equipped with a wakeboard tower, as it is now closely an expected share of the wakeboarding experience. You ought to choose a wakeboard tower based on it’s functionality, durability, and also how each one’s design fits with your boat.

I do have this rack for *cross-country* skis at our mountain cabin, and it works fine, but for downhill it does not work, and I would not recommend buying it.
For downhill I would recommend a tip rack and that’s what I eventually installed. Unfortunately I had already hammer-drilled and installed a lag bolt in our concrete garage wall to anchor the 2×4 for the Racor rack.

The skis want to slide out of the rack so I have to use a bungee cord to keep them from sliding out. It looks like the rack was designed before the advent of today’s binding technologies with the toe piece that is raised so high off the surface of the ski, so there isn’t enough contact/friction to keep the skis retained.
Minor complaint is that the bolts provided with the rack have heads that are made of relatively soft material and strip easily. I had to use a hack saw to cut one, re-position the rack and then use my own bolts to hold the rack in place.
